DACE
(Leuciscus leuciscus )

GeneralWhilst living for up to ten years the Dace rarely exceeds 26cm. A fish of 14oz is good, over 1lb2oz are very few.
Where to fish in the Bristol AreaDace prefer fast flowing waters, it is surprising then that the best place for them is the lower Bristol Avon, The Feeder Canal or Bristol Docks. Once you get above the weir at Chequers they are quite scarce.
If you want to go farther afield, the River Wye in South Wales has exceptional Dace fishing.
Methods and baitsIn the summer months, whip fishing near the surface can provide good bags. Feed litttle and often with maggot, caster or hemp. The dace can take and reject a bait very quickly, you can see them intercept your loosefeed in a frenzied shoal that darts up from the depths.
During the winter they are caught on waggler or stick float with maggot or caster as well as on the swimfeeder.

The above is a brief outline. If you require more help please contact me, Mike Hobbs, and we may be able to have a day out together catching fish.
